Over the past months, Studio Vulkan has been developing a vision for the future of Northern Lviv based on two closely connected ideas: the landscape as a structuring framework, and the cell as a unit of gradual urban growth.
The Emerald Network forms the ecological and spatial backbone of the proposal. It connects forests, valleys, agricultural land, ecological corridors and existing green spaces into a continuous landscape system \u2014 not as residual open space, but as a primary structure guiding future development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Within this larger framework, new urban growth is organised through settlement cells. Each cell responds to its own conditions: topography, ownership patterns, existing routes, local communities and landscape character. Rather than imposing a fixed masterplan, the proposal allows the city to grow through continuity, adaptation and local identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ur\u0161a Habi\u010d, Lukas Schweingruber and Simon Enem\u00e6rke presented the final part of the study at the third workshop, bringing together the spatial, ecological and urban design principles developed throughout the process.
We are grateful to be one of five teams contributing to future development scenarios for Northern Lviv, as part of the Lviv North test-planning initiative led by the Swiss Network with Ukraine (SNU), in collaboration with the City of Lviv and the City and Canton of Zurich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
