Workshop with the Department of Architecture at ETH Zürich
In the workshop, participants explored the relationship between drawing, space, and context through a 1:1 scale representation of Oerliker Park. A group of students tested different levels of spatial density and intimacy by “performing” a section of the park – positioning themselves in relation to one another to simulate spatial arrangements and social interactions.
The activity took place during the break between Ido Avissar’s (LIST) lecture and the subsequent presentation, serving as a playful and engaging introduction to the role of drawing in conceptualizing space. To prepare for the exercise, positions were marked on the floor to represent the layout of trees and paths in the park. Two spatial scenarios were developed using measurements from Google Maps, as exact data on tree spacing in Oerliker Park was not available.
The workshop, developed and facilitated by Ursa Habic and Dominik Bueckers together with the Chair of the Institute of Landscape and Urban Studies (LUS*), demonstrated how drawing and physical performance can be combined to explore spatial dynamics. It offered participants a direct and experiential understanding of the interplay between landscape and human interaction.
